In a game that was titled to be The Western League Showcase, Venice stole the hammered host, Fairfax 49-0 so much that a running clock had to be used in the second half.

Venice starters had removed their shoulder pads and cheered on their reserve teammates when the game was no longer in question, which was basically right after it had begun.

Venice improved to 7-2 on the season and clinched the Western League title and a win on Friday could clinch a No. seed in the city playoffs next week.

Receiver Dajuan Parham returned two punts for touchdowns on the night and it could have been three if it wasn’t for a late flag. It almost looked like a video game watch Parham jump, shake and dodge the Fairfax defenders with touchdowns of 38 and 50-yard returns.

Fairfax had hoped to make this game competitive, but the offensive line had three false starts penalties on the first two series after Venice had already took a 14-0 lead with 5:28 left in first quarter. It took Fairfax more 16 minutes to get their first-first down, but still had to punt few plays later. Venice’s defense was doing its fair share carrying the load pitching their fourth shutout of the season.  Fairfax’s quarterback, Myles Bowen, was getting pressured in pocket and  on ground in read option that was getting stuffed all game.

A balance attack was Venice’s formula in this game, with four different players scoring touchdowns on the night. Venice Alexander Diamont had time to pick apart the soft cover three zone with seam passes. There were a few times when pressure came on Diamont in the pocket before he escaped and hurt defense with his legs. He even had the game first touchdown on one-yard keeper to take 6-0 lead.  Venice even used a sweep pitch pass to get a 40-yard touchdown pass reception to Lemar Stewart to pull away 28-0 with 1:29 in 1st quarter.  The game was just a formality for last three quarters.

Now it’s time for Venice to start beginning their arguments for a No. 1 seed next Sunday. Playing in the Western league has always been an issue in getting a top seed over Coliseum & Marine leagues, but this could be the year.
