Passed away peacefully at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital  August 30, 2013 in Torrance, Ca from a month long bout with pneumonia.

Kathryn was born in Cincinnati, Ohio July 24, 1915.  At an early age she moved to Los Angeles, California where she became a pioneer and visionary in the field of Real Estate.    Blackballed as an agent for selling to African American buyers she became a Real Estate Broker.  She was responsible for opening many neighborhoods to African Americans.  Although her actions caused her numerous court battles due to the unjust segregation laws of those times she stated this was her greatest accomplishment. 

Kathryn is survived by her 2 children Michael Heard and Rick Heard, her daughter- in- law  Countess Heard,  Son- in- law William Hodge Sr, a sister Dorothy Thompson, 8 Grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, host of relatives, friends, and associates.

Kathryn Heard was preceded in death by her daughter Helen Hodge, her sister, Helen Thompson, and her Husband James (Babe) Heard.

Due to Kathryn’s request there will not be a memorial service.  Kathryn M. Heard was cremated at the Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary September 12, 2013.
