FOLLOW US:

Council President Herb Wesson and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson join over 800 West Adams community residents at Wesson’s “Movies in the Park.”

Council President Herb Wesson’s Summer “Movies in the Park” series concluded last week with “Hotel Transylvania” in the West Adams community at Westside Park where over 800 area residents came out to enjoy a family-night outside in the park.

“This was by far our largest turnout this summer,” said Wesson.  “With the cost of going to the movies continuing to rise, it was a great opportunity for families to have an evening out and get better acquainted with their neighbors.”

Joining Wesson was State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, who for the second year has joined Wesson during the summer movies series.  Elected statewide to oversee California’s public education system, Torlakson has been meeting with community residents to hear their concerns about trends in public education.

The 2013 “Movies in the Park” series took place at Benny Potter Park, Reynier Park, and Queen Anne Park, all in Wesson’s Council District 10.

Wesson’s community partners included the Department of Recreation and Parks, the 101 Enterprises Foundation, Community Build, Inc., the West Adams Neighborhood Council, the Olympic Park Neighborhood Association, the United Neighbors Neighborhood Association, and the South Robertson Neighborhood Association.

“I want to thank all of my community partners who contributed to helping make these events such a great success,” said Wesson.  “We want next year’s Movies in the Park to be an even bigger success.”
