CBG Arts & SWESH Entertainment in association with Kirk Franklin & 102.3 Radio Free KJLH is proud to announce their new original musical stage play, “Why We Sing.” The production will take place at the Lynwood Performing Arts Center located at 4050 E Imperial Hwy. This new exhilarating production brings to life popular songs from all nine of Kirk Franklin’s award-winning records including a brand new song. The show features a cast of over sixty of the city’s youth & young adult adroit actors, singers, dancers and musicians. A youth pastor and leader, Oscar Duncan, was gunned down last summer at the age of 23 by local gangbangers. With their reputation of bringing large crowds to past shows (3,000-6,000 in attendance) it is their goal to spread a positive message against gang violence in the community.

A portion of the revenues will go towards a scholarship in Oscar Duncan’s name. Writer and director Brandon Rainey has been writing and directing plays for the last 10 years. His impact on the arts and the community led him to receive Morehouse College’s Spike Lee Award while a student at Morehouse College and the JP Morgan CHASE Bank Center Theater Group Fellowship Award, which gave him the opportunity to study under several Broadway directors in New York. He also directed the opening act for the Michael Jackson Tribute in front of the Kodak Theater sharing the stage with Quincy Jones, Smokie Robinson & Justin Beiber. Tickets for “Why We Sing” are available at or 310-462-8111.
