Council President Herb Wesson congratulates Jenice Lacy, President of the “101 Enterprises Foundation” on the success of their recent School Supply Giveaway & Health Fair.”

Getting ready for the new school year was the theme at Council President Herb Wesson’s recent School Supply Giveaway & Health Fair at the Rancho Cienega Sports Complex which was attended by hundreds of area kids with their families.

Joining Wesson at the event were state Assemblymember Holly Mitchell and state Senator Rod Wright.

Co-Sponsored by the 101 Enterprises Foundation, the fair offered a wide array of free education and school supplies for kids starting the new school year.

An important feature of the fair were health and dental screenings that offered families an opportunity to identify any health issues that needed addressing before they affected their kids’ academic performance..

“It’s so important that we give our kids the best start to the new school year that we can,” said Wesson.  “They deserve the best we can offer and I’m pleased that we’ve had so many community partners willing to step-up and provide assistance.”

The kids who attended received backpacks with school supplies.  Raffle prizes included gift cards, physical fitness baskets, and bicycles and helmets.

In addition to the 101 Enterprises Foundation, Council President Wesson’s community partners for this event included the Watts Healthcare Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Charles Drew School of Nursing, “Just Teach After School,” Children’s Dental Services, and Herbalife.
