“Access is Granted,” preached Macedonia Baptist Church Pastor Shane B. Scott to his packed congregation in the historic Watts edifice.
During his message on Communion Sunday, September 1, Pastor Scott explained that he had met with a friend at an exclusive members only club during a recent trip to New York while on vacation.
“There is some accountability and responsibility to an exclusive club,” he noted. “However, we belong to a club here that is exclusive and inclusive and I am hear to tell you today that access is granted!”
As the church roared with loud applause, he continued, “But, there are some levels of responsibility and accountability.”
Pastor Scott and Macedonia members celebrated Veterans on August 25 and will host the 8th Annual Ushers, Nurses and First Aiders Day on Sunday, September 15.
The new church slogan, ‘MBC is The Place to Be,’ refers to Macedonia Baptist Church being the place where spiritual salvation and living for Christ is experienced.
Indeed, ‘MBC is the Place to Be’ when the historical Macedonia celebrates its 105th anniversary beginning October 1, with an array of spiritual activities throughout the month.
Since Pastor Scott’s appointment to Macedonia more than two years ago, the congregation has grown, attracting both young and elderly members. He has embraced the Watts community, frequently having lunch at Hawkins Burgers. Also, he is outlining a plan of action to address the nearby housing projects.
“I am right at home with him,” said Sister Mary Louise Winston, a long time member. “Not only has he reassured members like me, but he has brought new excitement for the future. He is a visionary who is spiritually grounded.”
