A 10-day tour tracing the ministry of the Apostles brought spiritual joy and Biblical insight to Richard and Eva Overturf.

Earlier this month, the Inglewood residents joined Pastor Charles ‘Chuck’ Swindoll of Insight for Living Church to visit Turkey and Greece on the ship, The Wind Spirit. The trip, according to Eva, left them with an enduring and cherished memory.

“We enjoyed another life adventure as we journeyed in a foreign land, but one not so foreign because the Holy Bible has told us much about it,” said Eva.

“We landed in Istanbul on August 3, then set sail through the Dardanelles strait for the exciting journey of Paul and John, apostles of the New Testament in the name of Jesus Christ.

“Apostle Paul and others sailed these waters on missionary journeys, evangelizing and planting churches throughout the empire,” she noted.

During the cruise, the Overturfs worshipped with Pastor Chuck as he spoke on ‘The Way God Moves Us Along’ taken from Acts 13:1-4. Arriving in Ephesus the following day, they toured many ruins there.

“Apostle Paul spent a lot of time in Ephesus. He had a preaching and healing ministry, taught in the Jewish synagogue, led discussions in the hall of Tyrannus and spoke in the city’s Great Amphitheater,” said Eva.

Next, they traveled to Rhodes, Greece, considered as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world because of its ornately carved bronze statue.

“During the Middle Ages, Rhodes served as an important stop for pilgrims and crusaders on the way to the Holy Land. Many priceless artifacts and a rich culture remain from the Turks, Romans and Byzantines,” said Eva.

Another highlight was the visit to the island of Patmos where Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation during his exile.

“John lived on the isle near a cave for more than a year because he was a believer in Jesus Christ and would not renounce Him. The cave is known today as the Holy Grotto of the Revelation,” recalled Eva.

The remaining days included a stop at the Thira isle along the Aegean Sea, a visit to a castle in Monemvasia, and tours of Corinth, Athens, the Parthenon and Mars Hill.

“In Corinth, we saw the Bema Seat and a rock where Apostle Paul may have stood teaching, and many ruins as we walked areas of the city where Paul taught,” she said.

In closing, Eva commented, “We thank God for this blessed experience and thank everyone for their prayers during our journey. Amen!”
