New business has found the happy medium between sweet and savory—the cupcake!

Who doesn’t love a cupcake? A mini cake with frosting that you can eat with your hands and they just got more interesting. Cupcake Fusion L.A. (CFL) is taking cupcakes to a whole other level. Dara Stewart, founder and CEO, Daniela Kimble, CMO and Leslie Allen, COO are bringing sweet and savory cupcakes to the Los Angeles area.

Originally from Los Angeles, Stewart attended Crenshaw High School and Grambling State University. She’s currently working on her MBA at the University of Phoenix with plans to graduate with a degree in Project Management in November. It was during a presentation for an economic class that CFL came to life.

“The class liked the presentation, they said I [had] a great business concept,” said Stewart. Kimble and Allen were also doing similar presentations for the class. “Leslie was doing [a presentation] on cupcakes and I was doing one on taco cupcakes,” said Stewart laughingly, “and Daniela was doing a marketing presentation.” The three ladies saw that together they had a chance to create something new and different.

“The concept just blossomed overnight,” said Stewart. They started by giving out samples of cupcakes at school and marketing through Facebook and twitter. They rode on the positive reception to their ideas and began doing events like family reunions, local games in the community and special events. It would be long before they became a company.

Established in June of this year, CFL is ready to make an impression upon the L.A. community with their unique concepts on the cupcake. Their cupcakes can occupy the food or dessert menu at an affair as they make savory cupcakes.

“The savory and the sweet put together,” said Stewart. “So you’ll get a taco cupcake with a margarita cupcake.

“You might get a barbecue chicken cupcake with a 7up cupcake.”

They are in the process of adding more items to their ‘naughty or nice’ menu. Stewart wanted to point out that taco cupcakes were around before CFL but the pairing of sweet and savory cupcakes is a new market. After receiving their sellers permit, CFL learned they were first on the market for this type of business.

“We are first on the market for savory and sweet cupcakes,” said Stewart. “We were…happy.”

CFL will be participating in the Taste of Soul 2013 on October 19. They want to meet the community and introduce their concept to a larger audience.

“This is our first time at Taste of Soul,” said Stewart. “The response from people is just great; they really love the concept.”

Cupcake Fusion L.A. is all about cupcakes, from sweet and decadent to savory and meaty!
