Dorothy Patterson-Bennett was one of ten children born to Rayfield and Martha Johnson on May 8, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. She had five brothers and four sisters. Five of her siblings and both parents preceded her in death.

She graduated from Dorsey High School. She married early and from this union she had a beautiful daughter, Heidi Lavon and later with the love in her life came another beautiful daughter, June Evangeline.

Dorothy accepted Christ as a child and grew up in Paradise Baptist Church, with her sisters and brothers; she was a member of the youth and later the praise choir.  She had many Christian friends and some were like sisters to her.

Her daughters and family were a major focus in her life, and the time spent with her many relatives brought her much happiness. These values were evident in her life, especially in the joy and dedication that she showed in being the heart and soul of the Johnson family.

She worked for the Los Angeles Board of Education for many years, and later worked for the City of Los Angeles Housing Authority for over 28 years, where she rose to position of Manager and eventually retired. She made many friends at housing, who today, are still her closest friends.

She met the love of her life, Richard Bennett while both worked for housing; they bonded immediately and would go on to marry. She was so happy and blessed with Richard.

Dorothy and Richard were known for bringing family and friends together, the most memorable was the special Christmas Eve gathering that they had every year; everyone was invited and was sure to have a good time. We will truly miss her…

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Richard Bennett, daughter, Heidi Lavon, daughter, June Evangeline, sister Augustine Parry, brothers Roy Johnson, Ivy Johnson and James Johnson, brother in law Richard Cain, sister in law Josephine Johnson and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
