As the longest serving woman ever on the public works board, Shaw has overseen the deliver of vital city services for over 20 years.
“The economic crisis we’ve been through has led to difficult times for the city, and I’m grateful for the support and advice that Valerie has provided over the years,” said Wesson. “And in all that time she has never given me bad advice.”
Among Shaw’s important contributions was the development of the South LA Initiative which focused resources on under-served communities in South Los Angeles. Through the initiative over 650,000 was invested and over 6,000 jobs were created.
