Rev. Rosalynn Brookins

Pastor Taurus L. Myhand and the Ward A.M.E. Church congregation will observe Annual Women’s Day on Sunday, July 28, at 3 p.m., at 1177 West 25th Street in Los Angeles.

“When Brother and Sister John Pryor invited other Angelinos into their living room for prayer in 1902, it is doubtful they understood that a movement was starting,” mused Pastor Myhand.  “Now, we not only claim their trailblazing legacy, but the women of Ward will be present and accounted for.”

“I will be excited to see people coming to help us celebrate with prayer, fellowship, music, breaking bread, and worship,” added Sister Katie Green, Women’s Day chair.

The Rev. Rosalynn Kyle Brookins, pastor of Walker Temple A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles, will be the guest preacher.  An ordained elder and former Episcopal Supervisor in the A.M.E. Church, she holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in human behavior and a Master’s of Divinity degree.

The Rev. Brookins is the widow of the legendary Bishop H. Hartford Brookins and served with him in the A.M.E. Church’s 2nd and 13th Episcopal Districts.   Also a popular motivational speaker, she has been honored by the Top Ladies of Distinction and the A.M.E. Women’s Missionary Society.

The Women’s Day celebration begins on Saturday, July 20, at 9 a.m., with a ‘Parking Lot Treasures’ shopping event. Women who want to share items can call the church to participate.

For information about both Women’s Day events, call the church office at (213) 747-1367.
