Mayor James Butts and Joshua Apparicio-Swain.

Continuing his scholarly trek from 2012, eight-year-old Joshua Apparicio-Swain has earned more awards for his educational achievements.

Last week, he was recognized by Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts for ‘Outstanding Academic Excellence’ and received the 'Above and Beyond' Award from the City of Inglewood Parks and Recreation Department for his citizenship and school accomplishments.

In addition, he earned a scholarship to attend the California Science Center’s camp after tying for first place in his school’s science fair.  Joshua, who attends Oak Street Elementary, won for his project, ‘Rubber Band Propelled Airplane.’

“Joshua had many challenges this school year, including bullying, but he never lost focus on his grades. To God be the glory! He is a high achiever and remains on the honor roll,” said his mother, Shirmin, a member of Gospel Faith Mission International Church in Los Angeles.

As for his future career, Joshua said, “I haven't made a decision about my profession yet. But I can become a mayor, doctor, or even an attorney.”
