Council President Herb Wesson recently visited Dorsey High School’s Hospitality Training Facility, home to its Food Service & Hospitality Program.
With funding provided by the 2006 Proposition 1D Public Education Facilities Bond, the facility serves 150 students, and over a 5-year span their goal is to educate and prepare 750 students for careers in the food service and hospitality industry.
On his visit, Wesson had an opportunity to observe student prepare lunch, and over lunch the students had an opportunity to share with Wesson their hopes and aspirations in the industry.
“In today’s world, chefs and culinary artists have become celebrities,” said Wesson. “So it was a real treat to visit this world-class facility and get acquainted with these great students and learn about their dreams for the future.”
The hospitality, tourism, travel and recreation industries are among the largest and fastest growing industries in the world, providing millions of new jobs each year.
