Women take center stage at the Brookins Ladies of Distinction Luncheon on Saturday, May 18 at 11:30 a.m., and Annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 19 at 9 a.m.
Both events, sponsored by the Women’s Ministry of Brookins Community A.M.E. Church, will be held at 4831 South Gramercy Place in Los Angeles.
“We welcome the greater Los Angeles community to join us for two uplifting experiences as we recognize and salute the immeasurable contributions of women to the body of Christ,” said Pastor Gregory McLeod.
First Lady Savalla McLeod and Mrs. Lorraine Nelson are chairing the luncheon honoring women members in the areas of education, community service, business, visibility and ministry. Also, Christian Lyons will perform a comedy routine as ‘Etta Mae Johnson.’ The ticket donation is $25.

On Sunday, the Rev. Charolyn Jones will deliver the sermon. An ordained A.M.E. Itinerant Elder, the Rev. Jones is an Associate Minister at Brookins as well as the Chief Secretary of the Southern California Conference of the Fifth Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church.
Previously, she served as Executive Minister at Ward A.M.E. and on the ministerial staff at Parks Chapel A.M.E.
The Rev. Jones is the holder of Master of Science and Master of Divinity degrees and pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. She is also a certified Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute.
