Relationships will be the focus of the ‘Sankofa for Couples Seminar’ hosted by the Men of Price Chapel on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Price Chapel A.M.E. Church, 4000 West Slauson Avenue in Los Angeles.
According to Pastor Cedric V. Alexander, topics will cover the elements of a good relationship, building multi-level intimacy, avoiding toxic pitfalls, African-centered cultural principals that encourage strong marriages, and other areas.
“We encourage married and unmarried couples as well as singles to attend this educational and enlightening seminar.
“Our instructor is Dr. Makungu M. Akinyela, a recognized expert in the subject of working with couples and a licensed marriage and family therapist,” said Pastor Alexander who added that Dr. Akinyela who also preach at Price on Sunday, May 5, at 10 a.m.
Dr. Akinyela is an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of African American Studies at Georgia State University. Also, he is an assistant pastor at Pleasant Hill Victory A.M.E. Church in College Park, GA.
He earned his master’s degree at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena and his Ph.D. from Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
Donations for the seminar are $20 for singles, $25 for married couples and $30 for unmarried couples. Continental breakfast, lunch and materials are included.
