High school basketball teams have been battling since late last year, and for the best teams in the state, it all came down to this past Saturday.

In the boy's bracket, Redondo Union won their first State title.  This run through the Southern Section and all the way to the state title game was not in the forecast before the season, because their team was 10-17 a year ago.

But head coach Reggie Morris Jr. changed all of that, and he led his team to a 54-47 victory over College Park in the Division II bracket.

Sophomore Jeremiah Headley, who stands at 6'6", scored 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, and that was coming off of the bench.  Ian Fox scored 11 points and Derek Biale put in 10.

In the Girls' Open Division, Windward entered their title game with a 32-0 record, but they were defeated by Bishop O'Dowd 60-45.

Windward was the favorite in the game, as they defeated Bishop O'Dowd earlier this season 58-43.

For Windward, junior guard Jordin Canada, who recently committed to UCLA, scored 19 points.

In the Division II game, Lynwood defeated Mountain View St. Francis, 39-26, for their fourth state championship.  They won the title in 1993, and back-to-back state titles in 2002-03.

Jazmine Johnson scored 11 points for Lynwood, and Amber Blockmon scored eight points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

In the Division IV match up, Gardena Serra defeated Richmond Salesian 62-60, as Siera Thompson scored 26 points and Deandrea Toler scored 20.

This is Serra's first state title.

For Long Beach Poly, their girls' team won their fifth state title by knocking off Berkeley 46-28 in the Division I championship game.

Jada Matthews scored 14 points and Arica Carter 11.  The 28 points that Poly allowed was the fewest ever in a Division I title game.

Poly won four consecutive state titles from 2006-09.
