Ophelia Collins McFadden has passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the age of 79.

On January 1, 1978, Ophelia made history in the labor movement by being appointed as General Manager of SEIU Local 434. During that time, it was the third largest County workers union in California. She was also the first African American Vice President of SEIU and also the first African American woman to serve on the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor board. She was a founding member of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and Vice President of the Los Angeles Branch of the NAACP. In 1999, Ophelia was honored as one of the greatest labor unionists of the century.

Ophelia's viewing will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 from 2:00pm-7:45pm at the Simpson Family Mortuary (3443 West Manchester Blvd., Los Angeles, CA)

Her homecoming service will be held at Zion Baptist, where she was a member. It will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11:00am. The address is 8222 South San Pedro St., Los Angeles, CA)
