Loved ones and friends of Hedy Conedy recently came together to celebrate her full, loving and rewarding life.

A native of Lugoff, South Carolina, Mrs. Conedy passed away on January 6 after living in Southern California for more than 60 years including serving as first lady with her husband, Pastor Harold Conedy, Jr., at New Palm Lane Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles.

Minister Gerald Conedy delivered the eulogy at her homegoing service held on January 14 at the Chapel of the Chimes in Inglewood Park Cemetery. Also, Pastor Emanuel Jones and Pastor Christopher Conedy participated along with Alex Conedy, Audrey Conedy, Helen Jacobs, Darlene Robinson, and Mentoria Jacobs.

Special reflections about Mrs. Conedy were shared by Delores Zurita, Velma Conedy, Clifford B. Conedy, and Eric V. Conedy.

Hedy Conedy was born on August 25, 1936 to Hosie Wages Jacobs and Elease Chavis Jacobs. She received her early education at Waverly Elementary School in Eastover, SC, and moved to Los Angeles when she was 15 years old to live with her Aunt Bell Chavis. In 1954, she graduated from Compton High School and went on to attend Compton College.

On August 14, 1955, she married Harold Conedy, Jr., and they became the parents of four children. Rev. Conedy became the pastor of the New Palm Lane in 1964 and Hedy assisted him in increasing the growth and progress of the church.

In the late 1970's, Hedy extended her family with two more children: Melissa Yvonne and Kelby Clay Conedy. She was an Avon sales representative while her children were young, then later worked for the State of California for the Employment Development Department in Los Angeles. She retired in April 1994.

Hedy was an avid reader and lover of history and trivia. A relative recalled, "Every morning, you could find her outside, getting fresh air, while her coffee brewed and working on the latest crossword puzzle as she listened to KFWB radio station."

Friends and relatives recalled her "as a loving, caring member of the family. To all that knew her, she loved her children and her granddaughter, Mallori Dellamae Conedy.

"Hedy loved to laugh and enjoyed recreational conversation. She was very friendly and often would start conversations with every one she met."

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Samson "Jake" Jacobs; and two sons, Victor Allen and Harold III.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one brother, Ruben Jacobs of South Carolina; sons, Jay M. Conedy; his wife, Meneta, and their daughter, Mallori, all of Compton; and Kelby Clay Conedy of Riverside; daughter, Melissa Yvonne Conedy of Los Angeles; niece, Mentoria Elease Jacobs of San Diego, and a host of family and friends.
