NMC Holds Pastor’s Appreciation & Birthday

A day of rejoicing is planned at New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, January 22, as the congregation honors Pastor Sonja R. Dawson, Esq.

The Pastor's Appreciation and Birthday Celebration will be observed with three spirit-filled services. At the 7:30 a.m. worship, Elder Jeffrey Lewis, pastor of New Antioch Church of God in Christ, will preach.

Rev. Stephanie Douglas of Worship Center will bring the message at the 10:30 a.m. service. The Grand Finale Celebration will take place at 3:30 p.m.

"Pastor Dawson is a woman after God's own heart. With purpose, persistence, and perseverance, she has ignited and inspired the New Mount Calvary family to go to deeper depths and higher heights in the study of God's Word and the practice of Godly living and service," said a spokesperson.

"More so, her ability to create intergenerational unity as well as her transformative messages on ‘the power of prayer, hope, love, and a faith that overcomes' has changed the lives of men, women, and children, in and beyond the church walls."

Last year, Pastor Dawson designated the church's theme as ‘A People that God is Using to Carry Out the Vision' based on Habakkuk 2:2-3. Under her leadership, the membership has grown spiritually and numerically.

Also, she guided the congregation in fulfilling the goal of the church founder, Rev. Dr. Lonnie Dawson, to pay off the mortgage; established the 5th Sunday Youth and Young Adult Worship Xperience, ensured the continuation and growth of the highly-attended Sunday School, re-established the Latino Sunday School class, and partnered with Love and Light Missions to build a home for disadvantaged children in Haiti.

"Now, as we 'blend the traditions of the past, with a hope in the promises of the future,' we are excited by all that God has allowed to go forth and we pray that you will join in and join us for a spirit-filled celebration," the spokesperson said.
