Greater Zion Church Family kicked-off its ‘Legacy Revival’ on Sunday, February 24, by saluting individuals who have paved the way for others.

“In observance of Black History Month, we want to honor our past in order to propel towards our future and present Legacy Awards to outstanding men of God,” said Pastor Michael J.T. Fisher.

“These distinguished pastors built the ministries that the next generation is coming into now.  If it had not been for their struggles, then we would have no platforms to stand on in the present.”

Compton Mayor Eric Perrodin presented the ‘Trailblazer Award’ to Dr. W. Jerome Fisher, pastor emeritus of Greater Zion and founder of Little Zion Baptist Church. Also honored were the late Dr. Joseph Holmes, founder of Double Rock Baptist Church; and Dr. Melvin V. Wade, Sr., pastor of Mount Moriah Baptist Church.

In addition, Compton Councilwoman Janna Zurita and her sister, former School Board President Satra Zurita, offered inspiring words of encouragement.

The revival continued to February 26 with more pastors honored during the services.  They included Dr. H.P. Rachal, Dr. Bobby T. Newman, founder of Citizens of Zion Baptist Church; the late Dr. Lonnie Dawson, founder of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church; Dr. J. Benjamin Hardwick, founder of Praises of Zion Baptist Church and Dr. Joe L. Gates, pastor emeritus of Southern Missionary Baptist Church.
