City Council President Herb Wesson honored Pastor Xavier Thompson of Southern Missionary Baptist Church at City Hall for his recent election as the new president of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Los Angeles and Southern California.
With his election, Thompson becomes the youngest president of the conference.
“Pastor Thompson is recognized as a visionary innovator and an exceptional leader,” said Wesson. “All of these fine qualities will serve him well in the important endeavor he has undertaken. I join the entire community in extending best wishes for success.”
Joining Wesson in offering congratulations were his colleagues councilmembers Dennis Zine, Jan Perry, Bernard Parks, and Joe Buscaino.
In 2007, Thompson was appointed pastor of Southern Missionary Baptist Church, located in Wesson’s 10th council district in Los Angeles. He is only the third pastor ever to serve at the Southern Missionary Baptist Church.
At the age of sixteen, Thompson became an ordained minister of the Baptist faith, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies from The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, California.
He served for eleven years as senior pastor at Saint Paul Baptist Church in Pacoima prior to coming to Southern Missionary Baptist Church.
Thompson is married to the former Rinnita Martin. They have two daughters, Jor’Dynn Simone and Emani Noel.
