As many things change, some things just stay the same.  Like Westchester High School playing in the City Section championship game.  Since Crenshaw took a back seat to the new powers of the City Section, it has been Westchester running with the torch, as they have won 12 City titles and six State titles.

Last year Westchester was upset in the semifinals by Dorsey, and the year before Taft knocked them off in the City title game.  So the seniors on this team are looking to leave their mark on this storied program.  Westchester’s last City championship was in 2010, when they defeated Taft.  This current senior class were freshman that season.

Westchester was awarded the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, even though ECR was ranked ahead of them in a number of polls for a good amount of the season.  But that did not really matter, because fans will get to see the top two teams in the finals.

Westchester was not about to let another opportunity slip away, as they held off a Palisades team that stuck around in the game for the most part, but Westchester played from ahead from the early moments of the game, and they ended up winning the game 62-49.

The match up between Westchester and ECR is a match up of one team that has established a recent tradition of winning on the highest level, against a team that is trying to climb to the mountaintop.  These two teams have the best athletes in the City Section, and they are both ranked in the top 10 of the State, so this will be a great game.

Game time at Cal State Dominguez Hills will be 8 p.m. on Saturday  The game will be televised on Time Warner.
