Man's Conviction Upheld for Deadly Shooting Outside Pasadena Nightclub

A state appeals court panel this week upheld a parolee's conviction for shooting a 16-year-old innocent bystander to death outside a Pasadena nightclub while aiming for a man who had previously implicated him in a robbery. The three-justice panel from California's 2nd District Court of Appeal found there was ``overwhelming evidence'' that Johnl Reynolds was the person who fired the shot outside the Underground, killing Ebony Huel. Reynolds -- who was on parole at the time of the killing – was convicted in October 2011 of first-degree murder for Huel's death, along with the attempted murder of his target.

Huel, who was about to start her junior year at Pasadena High School, was shot in the back of the head Aug. 17, 2007, outside a now-defunct teen club called The Underground when Reynolds opened fire on a man who had provided police with information that helped convict him in a 2005 robbery case. Reynolds was sentenced in December 2011 to 75 years to life in state prison.
