Mrs. Jackie Dupont-Walker

Hamilton United Methodist Church will hold its Annual Women’s Day Service on Sunday, February 17, at 11 a.m., at 6330 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles.

According to Rev. Lewis A. Chase, OSL, the theme is ‘Women Who Follow God are Always on the Right Path’ based on Psalm 25:4-5. Yvonne Kennedy and Dorcas Galloway are the program chairpersons.

The guest speaker will be Mrs. Jackie Dupont Walker, founding president of Ward Economic Development Corporation and a pioneer in desegregating Florida State University. A lifelong member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, she attends Ward A.M.E. led by Pastor Taurus Myhand.

Mrs. Dupont-Walker, a noted advocate for women and people of color, is nationally recognized for her work in community economic development. Her efforts at Ward EDC resulted in the agency developing hundreds of affordable housing units, encouraging indigenous leadership and facilitating job creation.

Also, she served on the City of Los Angeles 912 Charter Review Commission, 2000 Redistricting Commission, and LA Housing Authority as well as on many regional and state boards.
