In this historic drama, part of ten celebrated works chronicling the African-American experience of the 20th Century, two-time Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award© winner August Wilson says "They arrive carrying Bibles and guitars, their pockets lined with dust and fresh hope."
YEAH! YEAH! Back by popular demand for two weeks only! His story inspired a nation. His music inspires the world. FELA! is both rave and theatrical wonder; a tale of courage, passion and love that will shake you: body and soul.
This powerful, intense new play delivers a knock-out punch with its vivid depiction of a man fighting for his place in history. Set in the boxing world of the early 1900s and loosely inspired by the story of Jack Johnson, the first black pop culture icon, Jay "The Sport" Jackson has talent and confidence and wants what he feels is owed to him: a shot at the championship. Jay wants to be the first African-American crowned undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, no matter the consequence.
The Scottsboro Boys, which Michael Kuchwara of the Associated Press called "...a staggeringly inventive piece of musical theatre...," explores a shocking and pivotal chapter in American history with arresting originality, innovative staging and piercing new songs. The show is based on the infamous “Scottsboro” case in the 1930s, and tells the story of the nine unjustly accused African-American men whose lives would eventually spark the Civil Rights Movement.
