The African American Cultural Center (Us) will host a month long Black History lecture series by Dr. Maulana Karenga, professor and chair, Africana Studies, California State University, Long Beach. The lecture series, which will include slide presentations, will take place every Sunday during the month of February from, 3-5pm at the African American Cultural Center (Us), 3018 W. 48th Street in Los Angeles.

The four-part lecture series will cover periods, which define Black history and life in profound and enduring ways from Ancient Egypt to Pres. Barack Obama to the current times. On Sunday, February 3, Dr. Karenga, author of the seminal text on ancient Egyptian ethics, Maat, The Moral Ideal in Ancient Egypt, will present on The Classical Period of Ancient Egypt titled,  “The Maatian Ideal of Ancient Egypt: An Ethical Option for Our Time.” 

During the coming weeks, Dr. Karenga will address the following topics: February 10, "Holocaust, Hollywood and Jigabooing with Django: Degradation Dancing and Fantasized Racial Revenge";  February 17, "A Rightful Remembering of the Sixties: Lessons of Dignity, Determination and Struggle" ; and February 24, "Before and After Obama: A People and History Not Defined by this Moment".

Dr. Karenga is also the creator of Kwanzaa and the Nguzo Saba; executive director of the African American Cultural Center (Us); and author numerous books including, Introduction to Black Studies, 4th Edition, Selections From The Husia: Sacred Wisdom of Ancient Egypt, and Kawaida and Questions of Life & Struggle.
