Lisa Simmons

Seeking an enduring legacy for her children, Mrs. Lisa Simmons penned a touching memoir, ‘41 D – Man of Valor,’  about her husband, Randy Simmons, first LAPD SWAT officer to die in the line of duty.

“First and foremost, Randy was a man of God who loved the Lord and had a deep passion for the things of God.  That is why he was so successful,” said Lisa during a recent book-signing at Word of Life Christian Bookstore.

“In the book, I talk about his life, his trials and tribulations, how it’s so important to have a peaceful life at home, a good marriage and how you have to make sacrifices.  With him having a dangerous job, everybody in the family plays a part in making small sacrifices for big rewards,” she noted.

Officer Simmons also served as a mentor to youth in South Los Angeles. Lisa recalled, “Every Saturday, he talked to young people about staying away from drugs, gangs and prostitution.  He impacted so many lives.”  Thousands lined the streets at his funeral procession, vividly illustrating his influence.

The crowds are now gone, yet Lisa and her children are not alone.  She said, “Our faith has helped us go on. We believe that God has a plan and purpose for our lives and we really believe Randy fulfilled God’s purpose for his life. So, we have to continue on the journey.”
