Bishop Craig A. Worsham

A new era begins at People’s Independent Church of Christ on Sunday, January 6, as Bishop Craig A. Worsham delivers his first sermons as pastor at the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services.

People’s Independent is well-known for its community outreach ministries as well as the headquarters for the Gospel Music Workshop of America - L.A. Chapter and the Musicians in Action (MIA).

Bishop Worsham, most recently the presiding prelate of the 6th Episcopal Diocese of the Greater Church of Deliverance Inc. (GCOD), cited those aspects, along with others, as attracting him to the church.

“I love the importance the congregation places on spiritual growth and the warm and loving environment.  I plan to continue focus in these areas as well as develop community awareness about health, housing and financial literacy,” said Bishop Worsham, adding that he also desires to provide affordable after-school care.

Called to the ministry in 1998, Bishop Worsham was licensed and ordained in the A.M.E. Church.  He was youth minister under then-Pastor Cecil ‘Chip’ Murray of First A.M.E. and pastor of Mount Olive A.M.E. in St. Louis, MO.

His tenure with GCOD includes serving as pastor of Trinity Church of North Dallas, TX, and as the denomination’s General Secretary.  In 2011, he was elected a Bishop by the Dominion Assembly of Churches College of Bishops and consecrated to the Episcopacy by Bishop Larry D. Trotter.

People’s Independent Church of Christ is located at 5856 West Boulevard in Los Angeles. For information about its services and activities, call (323) 296-5776.
