Radio personality Pat Prescott will emcee a benefit concert for Ruby’s House featuring Chosen Gospel Recovery Singers, Voices of the Temple ╨ the musical ministry of Bryant Temple AME; the Word becomes Dance, the dance ministry of Christ Our Redeemer AME Church, Irvine; and Heaven Bound, the dance ministry of Bryant Temple AME Church.
The musical event is set for Saturday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m., at Bryant Temple A.M.E. Church, 2525 West Vernon Avenue in Los Angeles.
“Ruby’s House is a residential facility that provides a safe Christian environment for women and children who have often been abandoned by their families or who have recently found themselves homeless.
“Hidden from the beaten paths in South Los Angeles, this facility is a safe, nurturing, and affirming oasis for women and children who are seeking shelter from dire circumstances,” said the Rev. Darlene Watley, founder of Chosen Gospel Recovery Ministries, Inc.,
Pastor Clyde W. Oden, Jr., noted, “For the last 10 years, Rev. Watley and Ruby’s House have promoted and advocated for safe places for women and their families to ‘get themselves together’ when there were no other recourses and few resources in South Los Angeles.
“Over the last decade hundreds of women and children have been helped by this important ministry. This program of hope and mercy now needs the support of the larger community.”
All proceeds from this event are dedicated to supporting up to 20 women and children who have “found shelter from their personal storm,” he added.
There are no tickets for the event, but a generous free will offering is being requested. For information, contact the Rev. Dr. Oden at (323) 687-3729 or visit bryanttemple.org.
