ICEF Public Schools will name its View Park Prep charter elementary school in honor long-time teacher assistant Frankie Lee at their West Los Angeles campus on Monday June 9.
Affectionately known as Miss Lee to her many students and peers, Lee has served as a founding teacher assistant and worked on many occasions without pay before ICEF began its expansive growth period as one of the most successful charter school foundations in the nation.
Miss Lee began her commitment with ICEF before it was formally founded in 1996 and was responsible for transportation, food and teaching duties when the organization did not have the resources to pay its teachers.
She is credited with teaching a generation of students how to read through a unique process that she created herself and will be retiring this week.
Her impact on students, teachers and the founders of ICEF is so documented that the organization felt it essential that the kindergarten campus be named in her honor.
Although she is retiring from her position as teacher assistant, Miss Lee has pledged to continue to work with students in teaching them how to read.
ICEF and View Park Prep are also hosting a special retirement ceremony for Miss Lee on Sunday June 8.
