More than 200 members and friends of Greater Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church joined the celebration of Pastor Harold L. Mitchell’s 50th birthday and 19th anniversary in the ministry on October 7.
The gala banquet, held at the Crown Plaza Hotel, consisted of musical salutes, clergy tributes, and several commendations acknowledging Pastor Mitchell.
Among those offering accolades were Bishop Johnny J. Young, Pastor Artis Glass, Dr. Felix Carter Jr., Rev. Maharris, Deacon David Brent, Sis. Beatrice McGowen and Sis. Renee McPheeters, banquet chair. Solos were rendered by Mrs. Terri Kennedy-Johnson, Terrance Trunnell and Ms. Linda Broadus-Miles. Also, God’s Chosen Vessel presented a praise dance and song. Sentinel Religion Cora Jackson-Fossett served as M.C.
In addition, the evening included ‘Mitchell’s Angels Marching For Christ Pageant’ recognizing young members of the church along with their parents.
Little Miss Alexis Best was crowned queen of the pageant and Faith Maxie, Miracle Maxie, Aaliyah Shepherd and Kaci Harris were applauded as well for their accomplishments. Serving as escorts were Jordan Henry, Javier Mandujano, Christian Mangram, Dyamond Twiggs, and Tyrique Wise.
Banquet Committee members, along with Sisters McPheeters and McGowen, were Sisters Freida Smith, co-chair; Jacqueline Mills, co-chair; Lucille Bell, Tanika Griggs, Marshay Wilson, Bonnie Cole, Ruba Donston, Katie Walker, and Bro. Thomas McPhetters.
The closing celebration service will be Sunday, October 16, at 3 p.m., at Greater Emmanuel, 3727 West 111th Place in Inglewood. The guests will be Rev. Lowe of Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles and Rev. Carter of New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Moreno Valley.
