The 100th anniversary of Grant A.M.E. Church, 1129 Alamitos Avenue in Long Beach, will be observed with a banquet on Saturday, February 19, and worship service on Sunday, February 20.

The church, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. L. Fisher Hines, has chosen an anniversary theme of “Celebrating a 100-Year Legacy:  Christ, Church, and Community.”  The theme is based on Jeremiah 29:11:  “…For I know the plans I have for you and not to harm you, declares the Lord, ‘plans to give you hope and a future.”

A 100th Anniversary Banquet will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, 2 Civic Plaza in Carson.  Social hour begins at 5 p.m., followed by program and dinner at 6 p.m.  The program will feature a silent auction, and performances by the Mass Choir of Grant A. M. E., and guest choir from First A. M. E. Church of Seattle, Washington.  Donations are $50 for adults and $25 for
children ages 2 to 10.

The guest preacher for the 10:45 a.m. worship service on February 20 will be Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, the presiding prelate of the A. M. E. Church’s Fifth Episcopal District.  At 2:45 p.m.,

a cornerstone laying and dedication service will be conducted by the Prince Hall Grand Lodge,

Free and Accepted Masons, State of California, Inc.
For information on both events, call the church office at (562) 437-1567.
