Mrs. Georgetta Lavon Denmark-Forward was born September 27, 1949 to the parents of Gladys and Clinton Denmark in Los Angeles, Ca. “Lavon”, as she is affectionately called by her family, was the fifth born of nine children. The number five means Grace, and Lavon was truly graced with the gift of kindness, selflessness, giving and always making you feel welcomed, no matter whom you were, she never met a stranger. Georgetta completed her formative education years in Los Angeles, attending 36th. street elementary school. (Tetherball Champ), Mt Vernon Jr. high school (student and graduating from Los Angeles High school, class of 1967. Lavon loved music and was gifted with a voice to sing, she started out trying her hand at the violin, then the cello, and settled on the upright bass, but her big passion was singing, at the age of 16 years old she was asked to join a band as a vocalist, band members included, former and current members of Earth Wind and Fire. Lavon and her youngest sister recorded her first record under the Warner Brothers Label, The song “We Need To Be Loved”, is a cult classic in England today. Lavon shared the stage with many prominent entertainers, The Late Sammy Davis Jr, Bill Cosby, and Nel Carter to name a few, she performed at many well know clubs in the greater Los Angeles area, including Hugh Hefner’s Playboy club.
Coming from a large family and being a nurturer to younger brothers and youngest sister, motherhood was her natural inclination, Lavon gave birth to her eldest daughter and best friend, Cheri Antoinette and one year later gave birth to her only son Luke Dominic. May 9, 1971. Lavon joined in Holy Matrimony with Paul M. Forward (USMC) to this union was born her baby girl Danyelle Lavon. Being married to a United States Marine, allowed for extensive travel, which took Lavon to many parts of the world. Upon returning to the United States, McAllen Texas became the place she began to make her life, after working as a social worker for The Los Angeles Department of Social Services, she continued her education at the University of Maryland. With her experience and education Lavon became an investigator for the state of Texas, where she retired. During her retirement, she was involved in helping and coordinating many fund raisers for various charitable organizations, one being near and dear to her heart, which she participated in for over 15 years was “Relay For Life” this was a family event for Lavon, her children and her grandchildren. She would also lend her time as a volunteer to McAllen’s” Rio Grande Regional Hospital”, where she greeted everyone with a smile and an encouraging word. Lavon lived a life knowing God at an early age and knowing God loved her, so with all she accomplished in life she was proud she got to return to her gospel roots as choir director and praise and worship leader of her church singing and praising until the people were moved. On September 13, 2013 Lavon transitioned to her new home, heaven. Lavon’s life was a well lived out life and she is free now. “But I do not want you to be ignorant brethren concerning those who have fallen asleep, so you do not grieve as others who have no hope.” I Thessalonians 4:13
Georgetta Lavon Denmark Forward leaves to cherish and carry her in their hearts, Paul Forward (Husband) Her Beloved three children: Cheri Antoinette, Luke Dominic and Danyelle Lavon, Grandchildren: Dominic Jr, Devin, Donyea, Marquis, Peirce III, and Tayler, Son-In-Law: Peirce II, Siblings: Earlie R. Denmark, Shirley Denmark-Blanks, Zettie Denmark-Mitchell, and James Denmark. Sister-In-Laws: Debra L. Denmark and Ava J. Denmark- Walker as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephew & God Daughter. Those who preceded her in death; Parents Gladys and Clinton Denmark, three brothers: Jerry, Erwin & John; Brother-in John F. Blanks, and Paul D. Mitchell
