Donate Blood and Make a Difference
By Danny J. Bakewell Jr. (Contributing Editor)
Published March 5, 2009

Next week the time shall come when we MUST do our part to save the lives of Black children  whose mere survival depends on your blood donation on March 13 at our offices on Crenshaw Blvd.

In extracting a theme from President Barack Obama, who has called on each of us to do our part of community service, I am BEGGING you to join with me to address this drastic blood shortage of African American donors to aid the needy children stricken with sickle cell anemia.

I am also issuing a challenge to all of our church, fraternity, sorority, social club, community-based organizations, every politician, pastor, community leader or community servant to step up to the plate from 7:30 a.m. to 3p.m. and give blood.

I was touched this week by a man who came to our office and was visiting with my dad and while passing my office door he asked to give blood for the suffering Black children.

He accepted the responsibility to doing something and then came back and took several hundred flyers to give to his friends.

That is the level of spirit and commitment that we need for this blood drive and beyond.

Please join us! Call and sign up today at (323) 299-3800 or email me at savealife@lasentinel.net. I will thank you and our children will live to thank you!
