Published January 3, 2013

David G. Brown editorial cartoonist for the Los Angeles Sentinel newspaper has been nominated and voted to the Board of Directors for the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. Brown is the first African American cartoonist in the history of the organization to be elected to an officer’s position.

The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists is a professional association concerned with promoting the interests of staff, freelance and student editorial cartoonists in the United States. The AAEC has an annual convention usually in June to give member cartoonists an opportunity to meet and deliberate issues through panel discussions and guest speakers. The officers of the organization include president, vice president and board of directors that serve one-year terms and are elected by active AAEC members.

Brown is the winner of a NAACP Image award in 2009 for his book “Barack, Race and the Media: Drawing my Own Conclusions” and other multiple honors since becoming the Los Angeles Sentinel newspaper’s cartoonist in 2003. When he is not busy putting together timely editorial cartoons to coincide with current events, he conducts art workshops, produces award-winning books with positive message for community youth.
