The entire Los Angeles community is invited to attend the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church’s Ninth District ‘Spring Convocation Webcast,’ announced Bishop James B. Walker, presiding prelate of the Ninth District.
“It will be broadcast internationally live on Saturday, April 14, from Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 971 East 43rd Street in Los Angeles,” said Bishop Walker. “Please arrive by 9 a.m., because the webcast begins promptly at 10 a.m.”
The Spring Convocation host presiding elders are the Rev. John Deron Johnson and the Rev. Wendall L. Oldham. The host pastor is the Rev. Joseph C. Gardner, Sr.
The co-chairs of the 2012 Convocation are Clifford Harris, general secretary of C.M.E. Church Lay Ministries, and Mrs. Renee Woodruff, director of the Ninth District Missionary Institute.
The convocation will also offer a commemorative souvenir journal featuring a history of the Ninth District written by retired Bishop Othal H. Lakey.
Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer, senior pastor of Faith Central Bible Church in Inglewood, will address the convocation.
“Often called one of the great leaders of our time, Bishop Ulmer passionately pursues God’s will and wisdom and shares a message of God’s love, hope, power, and truth to set anyone free in Christ,” said Bishop Walker.
Other guest presenters include Candice Wiggins of the WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx and advocate of ‘Until There’s A Cure,’ a national organization dedicated to eradicating HIV/AIDS by raising awareness and funds to combat the pandemic disease.
Also, Attorney Emma Ione Darnell, vice chair of the Board of Commissioners in Atlanta, GA, will speak. She is the architect of Fulton County’s Code of Ethics and ‘Common Ground Program to Reduce Health Disparities’ legislation.
Rounding out the speakers is Olu Brown, pastor and founder of Impact Church 1.0 in Atlanta, GA, a new United Methodist Congregation with a multicultural gathering of people committed to sharing the love of Christ with the world.
“Brown is an author and nationally known speaker and one of Generation Y’s most effective voices. He has been called the right person to provide pointers to laity and clergy in the area of church growth acceleration,” the bishop said.
