CMEs Gather for Mid-Winter Council

Bishop James B. Walker, presiding prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District of the C.M.E. Church, will convene the Mid-Winter Council of the Southern California Region (SCR) next week. 

The annual symposium starts Friday, December 7, and concludes on Saturday, December 8, at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 971 East 43rd Street in Los Angeles. 

The Rev. John D. Johnson is the host presiding elder of the Los Angeles/San Diego District, the Rev. Joseph C. Gardner is presiding elder of the Los Angeles District, the Rev. Julio Andujo is SCR Administrator and the Rev. Bernard M. Jackson is host pastor.

Among the guest preachers are the Rev. Cassandry Redmond-Keys of Davis Chapel C.M.E. Church in Richmond who will deliver the sermon on Friday at 7 p.m., the Rev. Brian D. Reese of the First C.M.E. -Williamson Temple in Las Vegas who will preach on Saturday at 9 a.m., and the Rev. Weldon Spurling of the Body Christian Fellowship C.M.E. in Long Beach who will bring the message on Saturday at 12:15 p.m.

Highlighting Friday’s activities are registration at 8 a.m., and the SCR Women’s Missionary Society workshop and training at 8:30 a.m.  Mrs. Wanda Thomas is SCR Missionary President and Ms. Terri Dyer is the local host president.  

Saturday’s agenda includes registration at 8 a.m., and morning worship at 9 a.m. The General Session, led by Bishop Walker, convenes at 9:30 a.m., and will feature reports by the Presiding Elders.
