An overflowing crowd received spiritual and literal nutrition at the Women’s Day Unity Luncheon at Brookins Community A.M.E. Church on August 27. Over 200 people attended the event, which aimed to celebrate Christian fellowship as well as salute four outstanding female members.

“We are blessed to have so many creative and dedicated women at Brookins who readily share their time, talents and treasures for the cause of Christ,” said First Lady Yvette Williams in her welcoming remarks.

“Often, women are stereotyped as not getting along, but that is definitely not the case at this church.
The committee members were wonderful, working together in love to present an uplifting program for your edification and enjoyment,” she said.

Among the luncheon highlights were greetings by Pastor C. Dennis Williams, a powerful keynote message by Rev. Charolyn Jones, poetry by eight-year old Taylor-Marie Washington, and a liturgical presentation by Brookins Praise Dancers.

Also, vocalist Sandy Mack, saxophonist Mark Felton, and bassist Rodney Bolden provided entertainment. Celebrity Chef Mouton prepared the meal and several vendors were on hand offering jewelry, clothing and accessories.

Many people in the lively audience were attired in the event’s theme color of purple. The guests, who represented various local churches and community organizations, included Rev. Felicia Bagneris, president of the 5th District A.M.E. Southern California Conference Women in Ministry.

Lady Williams served as chair of the Women’s Day Committee. She was assisted by Patricia Williams, Mae Taylor Johnson, Dorothy Cobb, Bronda Everett-Eagans, Lillie Pruitt, Joetta Webster, Cynthia Mayes, Lorraine Nelson, Mishell Thompson, Catherine Freeman, Ronell Williams, Judia Hall, Linda Lanier, Rev. Joyce Randall, Rev. Barbara Brooks, Exhorter Gwen Williams, Dr. Vanessa Gavin-Headen, Pamela Curtis, Brittany Usher, Sherry Bradley, Betty Madison, Joan V. Bennett, Emma Patterson, Florence Davis, Carolyn Edwards, Barbara Davie, Marie Hand, Corella Stone, Rozslyn Freeman, Taylor-Marie Washington, Rev. Quincy Fielding, Ollie Lawrence, Henri White, Billy Tucker II, and Kelvin Fossett.
