Bill Cosby announces the line up for the 32nd Annual Playboy Jazz Festival

On Thursday February 25, Master of Ceremonies, Bill Cosby and the executives of the Playboy Jazz Festival held a Press conference at the Playboy mansion in which they introduced the artist lineup for the 32nd Annual Play Boy Jazz Festival to be held June 12 and 13 at the Hollywood Bowl.
Some of the artist performing this year are new to the Playboy Jazz Festival and some are returning Jazz Icons. Among the headliners for the two day event are: The Chick Corea freedom Band, George Benson, The Manhattan Transfer and Los Van Van. The first day of the event, Saturday, June 12, 2010, 2:30 P.M. – 11:00 P.M includes: Grammy Award winner, Jazz Singer Kurt Elling.
First time appearance by EL Dorado High School Band, under the direction of Richard Watson, The unforgettable Clayton -Hamilton Jazz Orchestra in which they will salute Louie Bellson, The Great Javon Jackson Band with special and first time back since illness, Les McCain, the talented and Natural, Naturally 7, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Ukulele Player, Jake Shimabukuro, Creative, Marcus Miller Band with featured guest artist Christian Scott, unforgettable Chick Corea Freedom Band and last but not least, closing act Sax for Stax featuring Gerald Albright, Jeff Lorber and Kirk Whalum.
Returning again to partner up with the event, Both 94.7 The Wave and 88.1 KJAZZ are serving as the official radio stations of the 32nd Annual Playboy Jazz Festival.
Day two of the event is set for Sunday, June 13, 2009, 2:00 P.M-10:30 P.M. The artist line up include: Back for the 6th time, jazz guitarist and singer George Benson, Salif Keita and his 18 members of singers, the respected and great, Manhattan Transfer, Back by popular demand, the young and beautiful, Esperanza Spalding, Grammy award winner, Irvin Mayfield and the 18 member, New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Bay Area Native and 40 member band, Jazz Mafia’s Brass Bows and Beat, Bobby Hutcherson and Cedar Walton Quartet, Robert Randolph &the Family Band, L.A District High School jazz Band under the direction of Tony White and J.B. Dyas, Bill Cosby Band; Cos of Good Music with Dwayne Burno, Ndugu Chancler, Mark Gross, Jay Hoggord, D.D Jackson and Ingrid Jenson. And last but not least, the closing act the great Tiempo Libre.
Prior to the Playboy Jazz festival set for June 12 and the 13, The Playboy Jazz Festival will set up an array of free community concerts throughout Los Angeles in May and June “in efforts to make the joy of jazz accessible to the community at large.” The first free concert will start Sunday, May 2, 3:00 P.M at the Beverly Hills Civic Center Plaza. Artist expected to perform are: Grammy award winning pianist, Bill Cunliffe Septet; Celebrating Oliver Nelson; The Blues and the Abstract Truth and Johnny Crawford and His Orchestra.
The second free concert is set for a month later; Sunday June 6, 4:00 P.M at the Warner Center Park, Lou Bredlow Pavilion in Woodland Hills, artist lineup to perform are: Sal Marquez and his Trio, Lao Tizer and his band and the wonderful Calabasas High School Band. The last but not least free concert is scheduled four days later, Thursday, June,10 7:30 P.M “Jazz on Film with Ebony Repertory Theatre” at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. The evening will consist of “a rare and often never-before-seen jazz footage and musical rarities hosted by noted jazz archivist Mark Cantor.
