Rev. Darryl Walker
An Advent Revival celebrating the coming of Christ starts Monday, December 6, at 7 p.m., at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 7900 South Western Avenue in Los Angeles, announced the Rev. Dr. Kelvin T. Calloway Sr., senior pastor.
Rev. Darryl E. Walker, senior pastor of New Philadelphia A.M.E. Church in Carson, will be the guest preacher for the revival which continues to Wednesday, December 8.
ìWe encourage the greater Los Angeles community to join us for this event. In the midst of†a commercialized-crazed society, our†challenge is to focus the congregation and community on the†reason for the season; Jesus Christ. He is our realistic hope of surviving such times as these,î said Rev. Dr. Calloway.
Dinner will be served each evening at 6 p.m. and Praise and Worship will begin at 6:45 p.m. Music will be provided by the choirs of Bethel and New Philadelphia along with the Los Angeles Chapter of The Gospel Music Workshop of America
Rev. Walker, who was appointed to New Philadelphia in October, most recently served as senior pastor of Turner Memorial A.M.E. Church in Hyattsville, MD. Prior to that appointment, he led several A.M.E. congregations including Mount Olive in Emporia, KS; Allen Chapel in Cheyenne, WY; St. John in Omaha, NE; and Parks Chapel in Los Angeles.
A native of Colorado, Rev. Walker was licensed to preach in 1971 and ordained an Itinerant Elder in the A.M.E. Church in 1977. He is the holder of a bachelorís degree in theology and masterís of divinity degree.
In the area of community service, Rev. Walker has served on the executive boards of the NAACP and the Black Health Care Coalition, and as an Assistant Coach for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Currently, he is a member of the executive board of the Foundation for Hospices in Sub- Saharan Africa, Inc. in Washington, DC.
