The congregation of Bethany Baptist Church will observe more than five decades of Christian and community service on Sunday, May 18, at 4 p.m., in the edifice located at 4115 West Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Inviting the community to attend, Pastor L.A. Kessee said, “Come one, come all and celebrate 56 years of ministry adhering to the mandate stated by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Matthew 28: 19 and 20.

“The speaker for the occasion will be Pastor Lester Heath of the Mount Olive Baptist Church.”

Other guests include Pastor Richard Williams of Victory Institutional Baptist Church, Dr. Sylvester Washington of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and Pastor Theodis Kessee of Mary Magdalene Baptist Church.  A reception will be held following the worship celebration.

“In addition, we will have a special salute to our organizing pastor, the Rev. Dr. Rocellia Johnson, who is still going strong at 93 years old,” said Pastor Kessee, who added that Deacon Kelly Bollin, Annie Dawson and Verniece ‘Tiny’ Moore were also instrumental in the founding of Bethany.

Ed and Minnie Russell are the co-chairs of the Anniversary Committee.  For more information, call the church office at (323) 296-7223.
