Tremendous turnout of residents ready to go to work.
Assemblyman Mike Davis’ 4th Annual Job Fair in Exposition Park
Connects Thousands of Job Seekers with Employers
Assemblyman Mike Davis (D-48) partnered with the Employment Development Department, Southeast LA-Crenshaw WorkSource Center, Mothers In Action, Brotherhood Crusade and Los Angeles Sentinel to host the 4th Annual Job Fair on Saturday, February 5, 2011. The Wallis Annenberg Building grounds filled with over 2500 job seekers in the early morning hours to meet with over 60 employers with jobs to offer entry-level status to experience professionals.
“Even though we had fewer employers this year because of the economy, it was clear that residents of Los Angeles are ready to work because of the number of participants who showed up,” said Assemblyman Davis.
EDD Division Chief, LA-Ventura Workforce Services, Michael Dolphin remarked, “The partnership with Assemblyman Davis is a model that represents a shared dedication to our community.”
Additionally, Willa Robinson, EDD Deputy Division Chief comments, “During this current economic time with double digit unemployment, it was a tremendous effort on the part of Assemblyman Mike Davis to partner with EDD to make the connections for job seekers with employers. The turnout for this event was indicative of the needs for connecting those that are long term unemployed with emerging job openings. It is vital to keep the momentum going with these connections. EDD remains committed to serving the people of California.”
The Crenshaw EDD staff offered Job Search Assistance Workshops and Resume Critiques. The Computer Lab was provided by the Foshay Learning Center & Robotics Team 597 and powered by Verizon Wireless.
Employers from every sector of business and industry, both public and private, were impressed with the demeanor, professional appearance and qualifications of the attendees.
