AMEs Plan Mid-Year Convocation

The Mid-Year Convocation of the Fifth Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church is set for Wednesday, March 6 through Friday, March 8, at the LAX Sheraton Gateway Hotel, 6101 West Century Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, Sr., and Episcopal Supervisor Mary L. Kirkland will lead the annual gathering. The hosts are Pastor Mark E. Whitlock, Jr., and Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church.

“Everyone, regardless of denomination, is invited to attend our free workshops on church operations such as effective management, fundraising, technology and legal issues,” said Pastor Whitlock.

Wednesday’s highlights include Bill Dukes, the noted director, actor and producer, discussing ‘Faith in a Facebook Age’ at 9 a.m.; Pastor Timothy Tyler of Shorter A.M.E. in Denver, CO, speaking at 12 p.m.; Bishop Kirkland instructing ‘Pastoring Taught By the Prelate;’ and Bishop A. J. Richardson, presiding prelate of the 11th Episcopal District, preaching at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, Ronald Hubbard, USC assistant dean of fund development; Southern California Edison representatives, and Mrs. Jackie Dupont-Walker of Ward A.M.E will lead workshops.

The preachers will the Rev. Carolyn Baskin-Bell of Rose of Sharon A.M.E. at 12 noon and Bishop Noel Jones of the City of Refuge at 7 p.m.

Pastor J. Edgar Boyd of First A.M.E. – Los Angeles will bring the Word with music by the FAME choir on Friday at 12 p.m.
