The Fifth Episcopal District Lay Organization of the African Methodist Episcopal Church will salute eight people for service to the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church and the community.

The honorees were chosen because of their election to serve at the highest level of the A.M.E. Connectional Church.  They will be recognized during the Lay Organization’s ‘Fifth Annual Evening of Elegance Scholarship Reception’ on March 13.

The reception will be held during the Fifth Episcopal District Mid-Year Convocation in Denver, CO, on March 12 - 14, at Shorter Community A.M.E. Church.

The honorees are Rev. Dr. Harold R. Mayberry, Chair of the Episcopal Committee; Judge Patricia Mayberry, President of the Judicial Council, Rev. Francine Brookins, Judicial Council member; Attorney Benjamin Edwards, Judicial Council member; Presiding Elder, Delman Howard, Judicial Council member; Rev. Dr. W. Bartalette Finney, President, Connectional Presiding Elders Council;

Mrs. Jackie Dupont-Walker, Director/Consultant Social Action Commission; and Ms. Gwendolyn Williams, Connectional Health Commission Executive Director Emeritus.

The reception serves as a source of financial support for the goals and mission of the District Lay Organization and for its Scholarship Fund. For the past four years, the organization has made available the Bishop T. Larry Kirkland Scholarship of Excellence and the Fred J. Stuart Scholarship of Achievement.

This year, two new scholarships have been announced for Leadership and for Community. Information on the scholarships can be found at
