Published May 14, 2009

The 2009 United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Los Angeles Walk for Education will take place this Saturday, May 16, in Exposition Park.

This family oriented event attracts more than a 1,000 participants, representing a variety of corporate teams and individual walkers. The event will feature a 5K Walk/Run fundraiser, chaperoned play area for children, and a carnival-like setting in Exposition Park. There will be a Post-Walk Festival with refreshments.

The Los Angeles National Pan-Hellenic Council is calling for supports of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) to participate in the 5K Walk/Run, with proceeds generated from the walk/run to help the HBCUs. The council asks that members of Black Fraternities and Sororities volunteer their time and efforts for this event. Local Chapters can sign up as a member of the LANPHC team by contacting lanphc-sac@yahoogroups.com.

NBC4 and KJLH Radio 102.3 FM will be on site.

Registration for the 5K Walk/Run will begin at 7 am and will continue until 8:30 am. The 5K Walk/Run will take place at 8:30 am and last until 10 am. Post-Walk activities and entertainment will begin at 11:00 am and last until 1:00 pm.

To register for this event visit www.uncf.org, and go to the events page, or contact the UNCF’s Los Angeles office at (213) 639-3800.
